The Hughes-9250 was developed to deliver the highest available transmit and receive up to 492 Kbps while "on the move" in the global BGAN Inmarsat satellite coverage area. This facilitates mobile satellite terminal with a wide range of broadband applications.

The Broadband Global Area Network, or BGAN short, is a global satellite network with Internet telephony with portable terminals. The terminals are typically used to a laptop computer to connect to the Internet in remote locations Broadband, although as long as line-of-sight which exists at the satellite, the terminal can be used everywhere. The value of the BGAN terminals is that, unlike other satellite Internet services, combine the heavy and bulky satellite dishes, a BGAN terminal is portable and can ask to be used worldwide.

The Hughes 9250 controls the fully autonomous Tracking antenna via an antenna control unit (ACU). This tracking antenna acquires and tracks the BGAN satellite signal while on the go. It contains mainly mount interface box, Cable set and magnetic feet of roof. The compact interface box modulates control signals from the terminal to the RF link between the terminal and the antenna. All components in the terminal be powered by a single power supply voltage that plugs into a vehicle 12V power source.
